About Ana Piñeyro
Ana Piñeyro is a textile designer and researcher working in the field of advanced materials and technologies. She studied Graphic Design at ORT University in Montevideo and Textile Design at ESDi School of Design in Barcelona. She holds a MSc in Cognitive Systems and Interactive Media from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona.
Ana started working in the area of textiles in 2003, focusing on material transformation processes, experimental textile design and electronic textiles. Her work has been awarded prizes and development grants from the Miquel Mas Molas foundation, the Institute for Catalan Studies and FAD (Fostering Arts and Design, Barcelona), among others. She has collaborated with CETEMMSA Technology Centre (now EURECAT) in the development of demonstrators for Smart Textile technologies; lectured at ESDi School of Design in textile design related topics, and conducted seminars and workshops in the field of Smart Materials and Textiles at several art and designs schools in Spain. In recent years, Ana has worked as Colour & Material designer for the automotive supplier Johnson Controls (now Adient).
Her doctoral research within the ArcInTexETN programme investigates the use of movement as material to design adaptive and responsive textiles that convey agency and behaviour, and aims at discussing scenarios of empathic interiors with the potential of offering enhanced spatial experiences.
